The Software Engineer Resume Template That Gets Interviews in 2026

January 12, 2026

Engineering resumes have their own conventions. Recruiters at tech companies skim in a specific order — here's the structure that respects it.

Header: name, one target title ('Senior Backend Engineer'), city, one email, one phone, one link. GitHub or portfolio. Don't list every social account.

Summary: two lines. Years of experience, primary stack, and one signature achievement. 'Backend engineer with 6 years scaling Python and Go services. Cut checkout latency 60% at a Series C fintech.'

Experience: reverse-chronological, three to six bullets per role. Every bullet leads with a verb, includes the tech, and ends with an outcome. 'Migrated 40+ microservices from EC2 to Kubernetes, cutting infra spend 32%.'

Projects: only if you're early-career, changing stacks, or open-source active. One line description + tech + link. Cut anything from before college for senior roles.

Skills: grouped — Languages, Frameworks, Infra, Data. Keep each list tight. Only what you'd survive a technical screen on.

Education: name, degree, year. Move to the bottom after your first job.

DraftlyCV's Modern and Technical templates are built for this structure — pick one and generate a first draft from your existing resume in under a minute.
